Jerry Newby was elected president of the Alabama Farmers Federation and Alfa Insurance Companies in 1998. Prior to his election as president, Mr. Newby served as a vice president of the organization and as a member of its board of directors. Mr. Newby was president of the Limestone County Farmers Federation for 14 years. He began his involvement in the organization as a member of the Young Farmers Program, serving as Limestone County's chairman, and then as chairman of the State Young Farmers Committee. He also served on the American Farm Bureau's Young Farmer & Rancher Committee.
Jerry Newby is part of a family farm operation in north Alabama and south Tennessee. The farm is operated in partnership with his father, brother and seven other family members. Their diversified farm includes cotton, corn, wheat, soybeans and stocker calves.
Mr. Newby is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Farm Bureau Federation. Mr. Newby served on the Alabama Board of Agriculture and Industries and is a past board member of Cotton, Inc. He also has served as a delegate to the National Cotton Council for Alabama and as a member of the NCC Producer Steering Committee. He is a past secretary of Southern Cotton Growers.
Mr. Newby currently is a member of the board of MidCountry Financial Corporation. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of Samford University.
Mr. Newby holds a business administration degree from Athens State University. He is a board member of the Athens State University Foundation.
He is an active member of Sardis Springs Baptist Church where he serves on the long range planning committee. Jerry and his wife, Dianne, have three children, Elizabeth, Mary Anna and Jerry Allen. Elizabeth and Jerry Allen are both full time partners of the family farm.
