Seventeen women participated in the "Walk in the Forest" event at Dewberry Lands in Clay County Wednesday, Oct. 9. Dewberry Lands is a certified Tree Farm and TREASURE Forest owned by Lamar and Felicia Dewberry of Lineville.
Participants listened to a presentation by Sheri Rollins, district director for Congressman Mike Rogers and learned tree identification, forestry facts and wildflower information.
A small gift was given to the winner of the tree identification contest and a bluebird house was given as a door prize. To finish off the Walk in the Forest, a tasty meal was provided.
The Walk in the Forest program is part of a national campaign coordinated by the Society of American Foresters (SAF) and the American Forest Foundation (AFF). Foresters, environmental educators and tree farmers across the country are inviting school children, teachers, lawmakers and community members to get outdoors and enjoy the woods. These walks are fun and educational. Participants develop an appreciation for nature and an understanding of the importance of caring for America’s forests.
This walk was made possible by the Alabama Forests Forever Foundation, the Clay County TREASURE Forest/Forestry Planning Committee and the Clay County Forestry Commission.
