Name: Meador Jones Jr.
Age: 65
Residence: Gallion, AL
Alfa Member Since: 2000
Current Office or Board: President of Marengo County Farmers Federation since 2001
About My Farm:
Farms in Hale and Marengo counties -- Beef cattle, timberland with hunting and fishing
What I Like About Agriculture:
I like the independence and satisfaction of being outside, but mostly my association with people involved in agriculture.
The Biggest Challenge Facing Agriculture:
The economy - lack of funding, both state and nationally - is the biggest challenge facing agriculture today. The lack of funding results in decreased law enforcement, fire protection and conservation practices.
I'm Proud Of...
A loving and devoted wife, and seeing our daughter and son grow up to be responsible and respectable adults.
About My Family and Faith:
Married to wife, Linda, for 44 years. We have two children, Lesa, 42, and Lee, 36. We are active members of First United Methodist Church in Demopolis.
Education:
Graduate of the University of West Alabama (business); Graduate of LSU School of Banking; and Graduate of Real Estate and Appraisal School
A Good/Bad Day Is...
A two-mile early morning walk, followed by bush-hogging areas where there is too much grass for the cattle to eat, fishing in the late afternoon, and finishing off my day with a delicious steak grilled by Linda.
You May Not Know...
I enjoy growing irises of all colors and old-fashioned vegetable gardening.
I also strive to: do something every day to improve the farm, and make at least one new friend each week.
