About My Farm:
I am the fourth generation owner of a 180-acre farm in Crenshaw County. We use approximately 70 acres for cattle production, with the remainder used in timber production.
What I Like About Agriculture:
We have cattle, goats, donkeys, a horse, a dog and a cat. As a biology major, I enjoy and appreciate nature. I love the birth, growth and nurturing stages of life, but I am not too fond of the maturation and termination stages. My husband teasingly tells me that it takes longer to lose money in agriculture than in the stock market, so we are in it 'til the end.
The Biggest Challenge Facing Agriculture:
Regulations - some are necessary and good, but with the input of special interest groups, one must not assume that more is better.
I'm Proud Of...
I love people, and I have always wanted to help those in need - from the bewildered or struggling student to the retired couple looking to buy their final dream home. I believe that I have given of myself to those I've come in contact with, but I have been the winner because in return, I am loved.
About My Family and Faith:
My husband, Timothy, and I have been married 44 years. We have a daughter, Barrington (Tim); a son, Calvin (Melissa); and three grandsons, Noah, Aiden and Peyton.
I have attended church my entire life. We currently attend Centenary Church and love it.
Education:
I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from Troy University; a master's degree from Auburn University, also in secondary education with a biology focus; and an Education Specialist certification from Auburn University.
A Good Day/Bad Day Is...
Any and every day the sun comes up is a good day because I am being given the opportunity to 'get it right' this day. It also means I will have the opportunity to experience the most beautiful sunset in the world, and it's all from my own back porch.
We are a close-knit family, so when one suffers, we all suffer. Having to deal with family illnesses or crises creates a bad day.
You May Not Know...
I love academics and would be a full-time student to this day if I could.
I enjoy English, smocking and reading.
Best of all, at the age of 58, I found out why God put me on this earth - to be a GiGi!
