One challenge for quail hunting preserves is the cumbersome process of providing hunting licenses for groups of hunters as they visit a preserve. The process is unwieldy and very time-consuming, while the payment method when going online is not designed for group purchases of licenses.
- We support legislation that would allow licensed hunting preserves the option of purchasing an annual license for $500 that covers a hunter on the property, should the hunter not already have the appropriate hunting license.
- The fee would be in addition to the annual hunting preserve operation license.
- This legislation is supported by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
- Proposed legislation also repeals several sections of the Code of Alabama that pertain to licensed hunting preserves that are no longer needed to regulate the industry.
The number of licensed quail hunting preserves in Alabama has increased substantially in the past 10 years. These hunting operations bring increased economic activity to rural areas of the state and provide jobs for rural Alabama residents. The preserves also support a quail breeding and production industry and provide the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources with revenue from license sales and preserve permits.
