HAWKINS NAMED EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF ALFA
A native of Fort Payne, Wayne Hawkins, has been named executive vice president of marketing for Alfa Insurance Group. Hawkins, 63, has served as interim executive vice president of marketing since October. He served as senior vice president of marketing for North Alabama for 11 years, was district manager for 15 years and was an agent for nine years.Hawkins replaces Alvin H. Dees who resigned in October to pursue other interests. Alfa President Jerry Newby praised Hawkins' service to the company. "We are fortunate to have a person of Wayne's ability and experience to take over these duties," Newby said. "Wayne has done a tremendous job for our company in north Alabama, and I'm confident that he will be successful in leading our entire sales force as executive vice president of marketing." Hawkins describes his management style as open and honest. "I believe in giving people the responsibility to do their job and holding them accountable," he said. "I think the number one thing is that I trust people and let them do their job. I try very hard not to over manage. I think the more you let people do on their own, namely decision making, the better they will do." Hawkins is a graduate of Jacksonville State College where he received his degree in education. He and his wife Helen have two children and six grandchildren. They are members of the First Baptist Church of Fort Payne. J.C. Ralph of Springville in St. Clair County has been named vice president of marketing for North Alabama, the position formerly held by Hawkins. A native of Ryan in Morgan County, Ralph received his bachelor of science degree from Athens State college in 1963. He taught school and coached basketball in Elkmont and Fort Payne for four years until he joined Alfa in 1966 as a claims adjuster. In 1976, Ralph was promoted to district sales manager which included DeKalb, Etowah, St. Clair and parts of Jefferson County. He remained in that position until his recent promotion. "I appreciate the confidence that Wayne Hawkins and Jerry Newby have shown in me by giving me this opportunity," Ralph said. "I've worked with Wayne for 34 years and I know what his expectations are.
