WEBSITE AIMED AT HELPING FARMERS INCREASE PROFITS
"MONTGOMERY, Ala." Modern technology is helping Alabama farmers find new agricultural markets by linking them with potential buyers around the world. The Trade 'N Post, located on the Alabama Farmers Federation website at www.alfafarmers.org, allows farmers to buy and sell their crops, livestock, equipment and supplies. "Trade 'N Post is for agricultural products, livestock, farm equipment, etc., and anything posted can literally be viewed all over the world," said J. Paul Till, director of Public Relations and Communications for the Farmers Federation. "Farmers can post to the site by using their Federation membership number, but buyers do not have to be members to view the on-line ads or to make a purchase. "As soon as the word gets out, we expect hundreds of ag-related classified ads to be posted. It's something we have had requests for and wanted to do for some time. We are pleased to have it launched and expect it to be a tremendous benefit whether you are selling hay or looking for hard-to-find parts or equipment." A search engine enables Internet users to enter a word and find any ads with that item for sale. Users are urged to delete their ads as soon as the product is sold. All ads rotate off 30 days after posting but may be reposted. "We've already received some very positive comments about the addition to our website," Till said. Currently, there is no limit to the number of items which may be posted. However, this is not a commercial site and is limited to individual members.
