LEGISLATIVE OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE APPROVES AG TAG
"MONTGOMERY, Ala.," The State Legislative Oversight Committee has approved plans for an Alabama ag tag promoted by the Alabama Farmers Federation. The committee approved the request for the tag Wednesday, providing that some modifications are made to the tag's design. Ag tags will cost $50, which is tax deductible. Auto owners also will be required to pay normal taxes on their vehicle. State law requires that 1,000 of the tags be presold before they can be printed. Money raised from the tags will fund Alabama Ag in the Classroom and other educational programs. "For quite some time, we have needed a permanent source of funding for education and promotion of agriculture in our state," said Freddie Patterson, director of the Federation's Governmental Affairs Department. "Once design modifications are approved, the Federation will begin promoting the purchase of the tag."
