"ALFA MEMBERS, EMPLOYEES GIVE RED CROSS $26,000"

"Montgomery, Ala." Alfa Farmers President Jerry Newby presented checks totaling $26,000 to the American Red Cross Oct. 9 on behalf of the organization's employees and members.Newby said the contribution includes $13,000 which was given by county Farmers Federations throughout the state, individual Federation members and Alfa employees. Alfa Insurance provided a matching gift. The funds will go toward relief efforts to help victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. "When America was attacked, many of our members and employees wanted to help, but didn't know how," Newby said. "We have great respect for the work of the Red Cross and thought this would be an excellent way for our employees and members to express their patriotism." Newby presented the checks to Bill Baxter, executive director of the American Red Cross, Montgomery Chapter. Newby was joined by four-year-olds from Alfa's daycare, who have also expressed their patriotism by painting flags and drawing pictures.
