ALFORD NAMED DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH CONSULTANTS
MONTGOMERY Mary Sydney (Syd) Alford has been promoted to director of research consultants for the Alabama Farmers Federation. She began her new duties Jan. 17.
Alford joined the staff of Alfa Insurance in 1985 as an employee in the life department. Most recently, she served as a research associate in Alfa's research and development department. As director of research consultants, Alford will be responsible for overseeing political polling and market-oriented research for Alfa.
A native of Limestone County, Alford grew up on a farm and attended Farmers Federation meetings with her father as a child. She said her new position with the Farmers Federation is "like coming home."
"I've really been affiliated with the Farmers Federation all my life. My parents were county board members for years, and my grandfather was one of the first Federation members in Limestone County," she said. "When this position became available, I saw it as an opportunity for me to use my experience to help give our leaders the tools they need to make important decisions."
Federation Assistant Executive Director Mike Kilgore said Alford's work will benefit both farmers and policyholders.
"Syd's expertise will be valuable in political polling as well as in gathering information that will help Alfa's management make marketing strategy decisions," he said.
Alford is a graduate of Troy State University in Montgomery with a degree in business administration. She also has earned her Competent Toastmaster's certificate as well as the Associate Life and Health Claims (ALHC) designation with Alfa. She currently serves as president of the Downtown Optimist Club in Montgomery.
Alford and husband Butch live in Coosada. They have two children, Jon, 26, of Panama City and Marianne Donaldson, 23, of Opelika.
