PINYAN NAMED AG LEGISLATIVE DIRECTOR FOR ALFA FARMERS
MONTGOMERY Paul Pinyan has accepted the position as director of agriculture legislative programs for the Alabama Farmers Federation. He will begin his new duties Feb. 1.
Pinyan, a native of Cullman County, has worked as Area 2 organization director for the Federation since November 1997. Prior to his work with Alfa, he was employed for nine years as a county extension agent in Madison and Cullman counties.
Pinyan, 34, has a degree in animal and dairy science from Auburn University and a master's in agribusiness from Alabama A&M University. He grew up on a family farm still operated by his mother and brother.
Pinyan said he's excited about working more closely with state legislators as an advocate for Alabama farmers.
"The Federation has a long tradition of protecting farmers' interests in the Alabama Legislature," Pinyan said. "I'm looking forward to working with farmers, and I encourage their involvement in legislative issues."
Federation Executive Director Doug Rigney said Pinyan is a welcome addition to the organization's lobbying efforts at the state capitol.
"Paul is an impressive, intelligent man with lots of enthusiasm who has the ability to communicate and work with people," Rigney said. "I believe he will serve this organization well for many years to come."
Pinyan and his wife, Kristie, have two sons, Andrew, 6, and William, 5. The Pinyans will be relocating to the Montgomery area.
