MONTGOMERY Alabama will be the spotlight state for the 2000 Sunbelt Expo to be held October 17-19 in Moultrie, Ga.

Dubbed as "North America's Premier Farm Show," the Sunbelt Expo attracted more than 200,000 people last year. The theme for the spotlight exhibit will be "Alabama--Experts in the Field."

Doug Rigney, executive director of Alabama Farmers Federation, is chairman of the Spotlight State Committee. Committee members who represent various agriculture, agribusiness and ag education organizations throughout the state, have developed a plan to make Alabama "shine" at this year's expo, Rigney said.

"Our tent will be one of the main attractions at this year's expo," Rigney said. "It will be educational and entertaining, and we have lots of great prizes to give away. Being the spotlight state is a great opportunity to show how diversified our state's farmers are."

Commodities produced in Alabama will be featured throughout the spotlight tent along with value-added products manufactured here. Alabama's three land grant universities--Auburn University, Tuskegee University and Alabama A&M University--also will be profiled in the Alabama spotlight tent.

Entertainment will be provided by the New Life Trio of DeKalb County which won the Federation's Talent Find competition at the 1999 annual meeting.

Other performers will include the award-winning quartet from the Enterprise High School FFA and cowboy artist/entertainer Bruce Brannon of Montgomery.

A special treat for those who visit the Alabama tent will be an exciting game of "Who Wants to Feed the World?" a game loosely based on the popular TV show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" Prizes will be awarded for winners in various levels of the contest.

Videos highlighting agriculture in Alabama and videos featuring the state's abundant wildlife will play throughout the day when the entertainment and games are not in operation.
