ALFA ANNOUNCES FREE HAYLINK FOR FARMERS
MONTGOMERY The Alabama Farmers Federation is using the latest technology to help cattle producers in drought-stricken areas of the state.
Farmers who have hay to share or sell and farmers who need hay can post their information free to a special section on the Alabama Farmers Federation website at www.alfafarmers.org.
"While there has been rainfall in some areas of southeast Alabama recently, drought conditions are still critical in many areas," said Alfa Farmers President Jerry Newby. "However, there are areas of the state that have managed to produce a good hay crop this year, and we want to connect the farmers who need hay to the farmers who have hay in the fastest, most economical way possible. The Internet is one of the best ways to make that happen."
Farmers who don't have Internet capabilities, can call the Alabama Farmers Federation toll free at 1-800-392-5705, ext. 4328 to list hay or to get information about hay available in their area.
Knova.com, a Montgomery-based software company, developed the software used by the Alfa Farmers website and donated the technology necessary to implement the HayLink.
The link will remain active during the hay shortage.
