SHELBY COUNTY PRODUCER RECEIVES HORIZON AWARD
MOBILE, Ala. - Lance Byrd of Shelby County recently was recognized by the Alabama Nurserymen's Association as the 2003 Horizon Award winner.
Byrd was recognized at the association's annual meeting at the Arthur R. Outlaw Convention Center in Mobile Jan. 31. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Gulf States Horticultural Expo.
The Horizon Award recognizes a qualified individual for outstanding service in the field of nursery or greenhouse production, retail garden center, or landscape design, installation or maintenance within the state of Alabama.
Horizon Award winners must be 35 years old or younger or have been in business no more than seven years.
Byrd and his wife Dana, along with their children, Bo and Tyler, recently were recognized as the Alfa Farmers' Outstanding Young Farm Family for the Greenhouse, Nursery & Sod Division at the Young Farmers Leadership Conference in Birmingham. Byrd serves on the Farmers Federation State Greenhouse, Nursery & Sod Committee and serves as a board member for the Shelby County Farmers Federation.
