VALUE-ADDED GRANTS AVAILABLE THROUGH USDA
USDA's Rural Business Cooperative Service has made available, through the 2002 Farm Bill, funds for development of value-added agricultural products. Independent producers, agricultural producer groups, farmer or rancher cooperatives or majority-controlled producer-based business ventures are all eligible to apply for funding through the Value-Added Agricultural Producer Grants. Grants are awarded for both the marketing and processing of an agricultural product and can be used to develop business plans and feasibility studies or to acquire working capital to operate a value-added venture. Applications are due by 4 p.m., Oct. 20. For more information visit USDA's website at www.rurdev.usda.gov/rbs/coops/vadg.htm.
