CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN ON NEW DIAGNOSTIC LAB

A ground-breaking ceremony for the state's newest diagnostic laboratory in Elba will be held Oct. 21 at 10:30 a.m. The facility will be located near the former diagnostic lab at 495 State Road 203 in Elba. Funding for construction of the new lab included money from the agricultural bond issue approved by voters in 2000.

The state's diagnostic laboratories identify and investigate diseases of livestock, poultry, wildlife, and companion animals. The laboratories perform special tests not provided at most veterinary practices. The state's diagnostic laboratory system includes a central reference laboratory at Auburn with satellite laboratories at Elba, Boaz, and Hanceville.
