WOMEN'S COMMITTEE REFLECTS ON SUCCESSFUL YEAR

New leadership was elected for the Alabama Farmers Federation's State Women's Committee during the organization's 82nd annual meeting Dec. 7-8 in Mobile. Members and leaders of Federation Women's Committees were honored during their annual luncheon Dec. 8 in Mobile.

Jamie Lazenby, who represents Region 4 on the state committee, was elected as chairman of the State Women's Committee for 2004.

Region 1 representative Ronnie Mobley of Winston County was re-elected for a three-year term, as was Sharon Turner of Geneva County who represents Region 4. Doris Odom of Fayette County was elected to serve a three-year term as the representative for Region 2. Sharon Turner was elected as vice chairman of the state committee and Region 3 representative, Dianne Nall of Monroe County, was elected secretary/reporter.

A new award was presented during the luncheon that was designed to recognize a woman who has contributed to the field of agriculture through her time and leadership. The inaugural award winner was Teresa Roper of the Alabama Peanut Producers.

Federation Women's Director Ashley Davis and Organization Department Administrative Assistant Leanne Worthington also were recognized by the State Women's Committee for their hard work during the past year.

Volunteers who perform the monthly food price survey for the Alabama Farmers Federation were recognized with a gift during the program, and 32 county women's organizations were recognized as four-star counties for outstanding work on the local level last year. The four-star counties were: Baldwin, Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Coosa, Cullman, DeKalb, Elmore, Etowah, Franklin, Geneva, Houston, Jackson, Jefferson, Lamar, Lauderdale, Lee, Madison, Mobile, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Pickens, Pike, Randolph, Russell, St. Clair, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Walker and Winston.
