ALFA DONATES $2,500 TO MONTGOMERY AREA FOOD BANK

Parke Hinman, executive director of the food bank, said his organization is able to get the maximum benefit from cash donations, like the one from Alfa, because it purchases food in bulk. Hinman said the Montgomery Area Food Bank works with other food relief organizations across the country to distribute products from wholesale and retail donors as well as the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
"For every $1 donated, we are able to provide 14 pounds of nutritious food for distribution," Hinman said. "Alfa's generous donation will help us continue to serve people in 24 counties in central Alabama."
Susan Wood, who works in Alfa's real estate investments department, chairs the Montgomery Area Food Bank's Public Support and Awareness Committee. Hinman praised her efforts to raise money not only from Alfa, but also throughout the community.
Each year, the Montgomery Area Food Bank distributes roughly 15 million pounds of food to 300,000 needy Alabamians. The food bank, which is a member of America's Second Harvest, distributes grocery products through 615 member agencies, including area churches.
