TOURS AND TECHNOLOGY FEATURED AT COMMODITY CONFERENCE
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Farm tours, technology and agri-tourism will be the topics of discussion for more than 600 farmers who are expected to attend the 32nd Annual Alabama Farmers Federation Commodity Producers' Conference to be held July 29-31 at the HealthSouth Conference Center in Birmingham. At the conference, representatives from each of Alabama's 67 counties may attend seminars on communication skills, economic and environmental challenges, as well as lectures on women in agriculture. Conference participants also will be able to take part a Farm-City training seminar, a beef production update and legislative and congressional updates. "Our staff has planned an excellent series of tours and seminars, which not only spotlight some of the state's premier farm operations, but also include some top agribusiness operations in central Alabama," said the Federation's Commodity Department Director Jim Cravey. On Friday, participants can choose from five tours that will visit everything from row crop and livestock farms to horticulture and greenhouse operations. Other scheduled stops include Blue Bell Creameries, DeSoto Caverns, wildlife management in Oak Mountain State Park, the American Village and Morgan Creek Vineyards.
Some conference participants will witness the dedication of the newly renovated agricultural barn at the American Village near Montevallo, a project sponsored by nearly every county Farmers Federation, as well as Alfa Insurance Co. In addition to a busy schedule of seminars and tours, the conference also will include the Federation's State Women's Committee luncheon and Cotton Fashion Show. Saturday's closing banquet will feature a tribute to country music great Patsy Cline performed by Nashville recording artist Logan Wells. The entertainment is sponsored by Alfa Health. Tickets are required for all tours and meals at this year's banquet, and a complete agenda is available online at www.alfafarmers.org.
