CROSSVILLE -- A Beef Cattle Field Day will be held Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Sand Mountain Research and Extension Center in Crossville, beginning at 9 a.m.

Center superintendent Tony Dawkins said the event will feature information on such topics as bull evaluation and selection, electronic identification of livestock, marketing source and age-verified cattle for increased profits, retained ownership programs, obtaining carcass information on cattle, premise registration for Alabama and methods to reduce winter feed costs.

A demonstration of animal identification on cattle will be at 11:30 a.m., and a lunch, provided by the DeKalb County Farmers Federation, will be served at noon.

Program participants include numerous Auburn University faculty members and Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station researchers, specialists with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and state veterinarians.

This event is co-sponsored by the AAES and the Extension System.
