MEAT GOAT & SHEEP PRODUCERS NEWSLETTER READY
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Alabama Meat Goat & Sheep Producers participated in the Ag Roundup at Auburn University on September 24. This annual event, held in conjunction with other Homecoming festivities, allows people from across the state to sample a vast array of food items representing virtually all of the commodities produced in Alabama. One of the many commodities represented was meat goats. Attendees were treated to delicious goat stew, barbequed goat, goat chops, and authentic Jamaican curry goat. With over 2,000 people in attendance, a number of people were exposed to goat meat who had never tried it, and more than a few first timers returned for seconds.
Several American lamb pelts were displayed that day and one was donated by the Alabama Meat Goat & Sheep Producers to help raise over $8,900 for scholarships as one of the many items auctioned during the event. Several members of the State Committee, including Sam Abney, Charlie Thompson, James Griffin, and the late Tom Burnside, helped to make the event a success. A special thanks goes out to their families for helping out, and also to Dr. Diego Gimenez for his assistance. We also want to thank Dr. Sandra Solaiman for donating two of the goats that were served. For more news from the Winter 2005-2006 Newsletter of the Meat Goat & Sheep Producers, see the link below.
