GREEN INDUSTRY DAY TOUR DEADLINE SET
MOBILE, Ala. -- Tours of nurseries in Semmes and Theodore, along with lunch at the famed Bellingrath Gardens, will be highlights of the 2006 Green Industry Day Tour on June 27, says Brian Hardin, director of the Alabama Farmers Federation's Greenhouse, Nursery and Sod Division. Coordinated by the Mobile County Farmers Federation's Greenhouse, Nursery and Sod Committee, the tour will depart by bus at 9 a.m. from the Jon Archer Agricultural Center in Mobile and conclude there later that evening. The first stop of the tour will be Tom Dodd Nurseries in Semmes, which has been serving re-wholesalers, retail garden centers, landscapers and other growers since 1920. The operation grows top quality azaleas, ferns, edible landscaping varieties, carnivorous plants and other woody ornamentals, including balled and burlapped material. The second stop is also in Semmes, where Kinney Nursery grows high-quality nursery stock including perennials, palms, ornamental trees, natives, woody plants, ground covers, junipers, lilies and azaleas. Then it's on to Theodore, where Oliver Washington III operates Shore Acres Plant Farm, a family-owned greenhouse operation emphasizing foliage and flowering plants of annuals and perennials, and specializing in quality color plants for the South. Pre-registration is required and is $35 per person. Space is limited. For more information, contact Hardin at (800) 392-5705, Ext. 4217.
