COMMODITY PRODUCERS CONFERENCE RETURNS TO HUNTSVILLE
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- The Alabama Farmers Federation's 34th Commodity Producers Conference returns to Huntsville's Von Braun Center on Aug. 3-5, with more choices for Alabama farmers than ever before, says Commodity Department Director Jimmy Carlisle.Farmers will be able to pick from six farm tours and a field day expo, attend educational seminars and receive Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations training. "With our last conference in this area occurring in August 2002, we are excited about being back in the Huntsville area this year," said Carlisle. "Our staff has been working with the agricultural leadership in north Alabama and southern Tennessee to put together some great tour sites. In addition to some very scenic stops, our members will have the opportunity to see and visit some of the area's top farming operations and agribusinesses. I'd urge everyone to look at the tour schedules carefully and decide which best suits your own needs." The conference will open at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 3 with convention registration at the Von Braun Center. A welcoming banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday is devoted entirely to tours and a field day, all of which will include lunch. Participants will have Friday evening free for dinner on their own. In addition, Guy Hall, director of the Federation's Pork and Poultry Divisions, will coordinate a Confined Animal Feeding Operations training seminar. Attending the presentation and ensuing question-and-answer session will enable producers to earn two hours of Continuing Education Units toward the six-hour annual requirement. The Federation's Women's Committee also will hold its Cotton Fashion Show, featuring garments made from Alabama's top row crop. The conference finale will be the Saturday night banquet, which will feature special entertainment sponsored by Alfa Health. County pre-registration forms indicating your tour choices are due July 12. Tickets purchased after that date will carry a $5 per ticket late fee. Tickets are required for all tours, the opening and closing banquets and the women's luncheon and fashion show. Lodging preferences are also due July 12.
