ALABAMA TURFGRASS ASSOCIATION PLANS 'EXTREME MAKEOVER'
AUBURN, Ala. -- The Alabama Turfgrass Association will be taking things to the "extreme" Oct. 24-26 as it holds its 45th annual conference and trade show at Auburn University Hotel & Conference Center. "Extreme Makeover: Turfgrass Managers Edition" will focus on managing extremes in turfgrass, landscape, pest control and business as participants can choose from several educational seminars from 9 a.m. until noon Thursday, Oct. 26. Turfgrass management seminars will take a look at tolerant grasses for extreme heat, management extremes for spring dead spots and nitrogen management. Landscape management seminars will examine landscape makeovers through the eyes of a turf manager, extreme interactions with fertilizers and plants and water management. On the business end, there'll be seminars on how to get the best from your crew, communication, and an Extreme Q&A. The conference will begin Oct. 24 with registration from 8 a.m. until 4. The opening day will also include a pesticide training session, sporting clays tournament, golf, tour of the Turfgrass Research Center and Auburn University Turf Club Cook-Out. Wednesday will feature the opening of the trade show, business meetings, and other "extreme" events, including the ATA President's Award for Excellence for the year's best sod farm, golf course, landscape/lawn and sports field/complex. Winners will be presented a plaque during the General Assembly, a feature article in Turf Times, and free registration to the annual conference and trade show. To enter, applicants must be an ATA member for three or more years. All applications must be submitted in complete form along with a minimum of 10 digital photographs. There must be at least three entries per category for a winner to be awarded for that category. All sports fields, landscapes, sod farms and golf courses must be older than three years.
