BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Farmers representing 15 commodities grown in Alabama will gather at Birmingham's Cahaba Grand Conference Center on Feb. 13-15 for the Alabama Farmers Federation's Commodity Organizational Conference.

Federation Commodity Director Jimmy Carlisle said the three-day format allows more opportunity for discussion among the farmers, and encouraged all county commodity chairmen and vice chairmen from the Federation to attend the event.

"To effectively represent Alabama farmers, it is important that we have broad-based representation of commodity leaders," Carlisle said. "We will be discussing issues, setting goals and priorities for 2007 and electing state commodity committee members."

Carlisle emphasized that the conference is also for more than planning -- it's also for learning. "We'll have numerous speakers who'll address the important issues, current trends and ideas pertaining toeach of these commodities. It's an educational aspect of the meeting that is sure to benefit producers of all commodities."

The meeting date for each commodity is listed below. Registration for all meetings begins at 9 a.m., with the sessions beginning at 10 a.m. and concluding around 3:30 p.m.

Feb. 13 --Bee & Honey, Beef, Catfish, Pork and Wildlife Resources

Feb. 14 --Cotton, Forestry, Greenhouse, Nursery & Sod, Hay & Forage, Meat Goat & Sheep

Feb. 15 -- Dairy, Horticulture, Poultry, Soybean and Wheat & Feed Grains

The organizational meeting for the Alabama Peanut Producers will be Friday, Feb. 1, 8:30 a.m., at its annual meeting at the National Peanut Festival fairgrounds in Dothan. The meeting will be in conjunction with the Alabama/Florida Peanut Trade Show.
