WOMEN'S DIVISION ANNOUNCES 2007 CONTEST CATEGORIES
HELEN, Ga. -- The State Women's Committee of the Alabama Farmers Federation recently met in Helen, Ga., to select categories for the Sewing, Quilting and Heritage Cooking Contests for 2007. All three contests are open to all Federation members, with the exception of family members of employees of the Alabama Farmers Federation or ALFA Insurance. The categories are as follows:
SEWING
Heirloom Division -- Garments made from cotton or cotton blend of at least 50 percent cotton for ages 4 and older using French hand or machine sewing. In addition to fine fabrics, the heirloom division uses laces and trims to create a garment by hand or machine, using techniques such as French seams, tucks, embroidery or puffing.Children's Division -- Garments made from cotton or cotton blends of at least 50 percent cotton for children from 4-12 years of age. The model must be at least 4 years of age. Young Adult Division -- Garments made from cotton or cotton blends of at least 50 percent cotton for young adults up to 19 years of age up to the date of the contest. Contestants must construct and model their own garments if entering this category. Adult -- Garments made from cotton or cotton blends of at least 50 percent cotton for adults 13 years or older. QUILTING
Hand-Stitched Quilts -- Quilts, including lining, must be hand-stitched and made from all cotton or cotton blends of at least 50 percent cotton. Quilts must have been completed within the past year and must be a standard full bed size or larger.Machine-Stitched Quilts --Quilts, including lining, must be machine-stitched and made from all cotton or cotton blends of at least 50 percent cotton. Quilts must have been completed in the past year, and must be a standard full bed size or larger. Cotton-Crocheted Table Runner -- Table runners should be crocheted and made from all cotton or cotton blends of at least 50 percent cotton. Table runners should have been completed within the past year. HERITAGE COOKING CONTEST
The 2007 Heritage Cooking Contest category will be "Salads."Each contestant should be at least 18 years of age. All county winners should result from a contest conducted and approved by the county. Only one county winner will be eligible to compete in the State Contest. Each entry will be sampled and a copy of the recipe should be provided in typed form.
