FEDERATION ISSUES ACTION ALERT ON HORSE SLAUGHTER BAN
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Alabama Farmers Federation today issued a "legislative alert," encouraging its 430,000-plus members contact their senators and congressmen and urge them not support two bills banning horses from slaughter.
Keith Gray, national affairs director for the Federation, posted the alert to the organization's web site at
and urged members to to send a message to their lawmakers opposing The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, H.R. 503/S. 311.
Once at the website, members can read how the legislation can have a chilling impact on livestock producers and why the Federation opposes this legislation.
According to Gray, the legislation introduced last week in both the House and Senate, "infringes on producers' rights to manage livestock according to commonly accepted agricultural practices and sets a dangerous precedent for banning other foods for reasons other than food safety or public health."
Members who visit the "legislative alert" section can also select how they want to deliver their message to the lawmakers -- email or printed letter.
