HORTICULTURE TOUR: MARKETS, MOTORS AND MANSIONS
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Markets, motors and mansions will be on the agenda Sept. 9-14 when the Alabama Farmers Federation takes the bus to the mountains for North Carolina for its 2007 Horticulture Tour.

With the North Carolina Farm Bureau coordinating the itinerary, the tour will be visiting the Charlotte and Asheville areas to give participants an up-close view of the wide variety of horticultural production in the Tar Heel State.
Participants will experience one of North Carolina's premiere farmers markets, greenhouse and nursery production, wineries, fruit and vegetable production, organic production, sod production, processing and roadside stands.
In addition, participants will visit America's castle, the famed Biltmore House estate, where they will have lunch and tour the Biltmore House and its winery. Motorsports fans will also get a chance to tour the Hendrick Motorsports Complex in Charlotte, where Rick Hendrick's "All Star Racing" has cranked out winners like Jimmie Johnson, Geoff Bodine, Terry Labonte and Jeff Gordon.
Among the agricultural stops are a visit and cookout at the farms of the Henderson County (N.C.,) Farm Bureau president, Danny McConnell, a tour of Metrolina Greenhouses, Childress Vineyards and Winery in Lexington and Lineberger's Killdeer Farm in Kings Mountain, N.C.
"First and foremost, we want this year's tour to be a benefit to horticultural producers, to help them be more profitable on their farms," said Brian Hardin, director of the Alabama Farmers Federation's Greenhouse Nursery & Sod and Horticulture Divisions. "As always, our goal is that producers will return with valuable information while enjoying the trip."
Space is limited (only one bus), and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration deadline is July 26. For more information, call Hardin at 1-800-392-5705, Ext. 4217. A tentative itinerary, registration information and forms are available for download below.
