STATE AG DEPARTMENT SETS DROUGHT ASSESSMENT TOUR
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Mike Kilgore, executive director of the Alabama Farmers Federation, will join Alabama Agriculture & Industries Commissioner Ron Sparks and other agricultural leaders on Wednesday, Aug. 8, in visiting with Alabama farmers suffering under the state's worst drought in a century. Sparks' office announced the tour today, saying that the group will make three stops across the state as it seeks to assess drought conditions in the different growing regions. The group will also be seeking to determine current growing conditions and imminent needs, and update growers on the status of state and federal drought assistance relief efforts. Department of Agriculture and Industries Deputy Commissioner Ronnie Murphy, President and CEO of Alabama Farmers Cooperative Tommy Paulk and representatives from Monsanto will join Sparks and Kilgore.
