FEDERATION, SUNBELT EXPO TO HOLD HAY CONTESTS
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Hay producers throughout Alabama and the Southeast are invited to compete in two upcoming hay contests -- one for Alabama growers and one for growers throughout the southeastern United States. The Alabama Farmers Federation's Hay and Forage Committee is holding the Alabama Hay Contest in conjunction with the Alabama Forage Conference at the Pike County Cattlemen's Association building on Dec. 13. This contest is being "piggybacked" with the Southeast Hay Contest at the Sunbelt Agriculture Exposition in Moultrie, Ga., on Oct. 16-18, in that the rules and the entry forms are virtually the same and the analyses will be done at the University of Georgia Feed and Environmental Water Laboratory. A producer can enter either or both contests. To enter the Alabama Hay Contest only, send a hay or haylage sample and a completed Alabama Hay Contest form to Deborah Buchanan at the address indicated on the Alabama Hay Contest entry form along with a check for $15. On the bottom line of the form. circle "No" to indicate the entry is only for the Alabama Hay Contest. Keep a sample (hay only) for possible display purposes in case the entry is one of the top three in its category. To enter the Southeast Hay Contest only, send a hay or haylage sample and a completed Southeast Hay Contest form to the Georgia Feed and Environmental Water Laboratory along with a check for $10. Keep a sample (hay only; not haylage) for possible display purposes in case the entry is one of the top three in its category. To enter both contests, send a hay or haylage sample and a completed Alabama Hay Contest form to Deborah Buchanan at the address indicated on the Alabama Hay Contest entry form along with a check for $15. On the form circle "Yes" on the bottom line to indicate the entry is to be entered in both contests. Keep two samples of hay for possible display purposes in case the entry is one of the top three entries in its category in both contests.
