SATSUMAS FOCUS OF CITRUS FIELD DAY
FAIRHOPE, Ala. -- Satsumas will be on the agenda Nov. 13 when the Gulf Coast Research and Extension Center hosts a Satsuma Citrus Field Day & Tour at the Fairhope facility. The meeting, which is scheduled 1-5 p.m., is open to commercial producers, research and Extension personnel and citrus hobbyists. There is no fee to attend. Satsumas are the main citrus crop in Alabama, and specialists will discuss and demonstrate general culture and pest management, economics of freeze protection and prevention of emerging invasive diseases. The field day will include a tour of test orchards and the station's grading facility. The Gulf Coast Research and Extension Center is at 8300 State Highway 104 in Fairhope. To reach the facility from Interstate 10, take U.S. 98 South (Daphne/Fairhope Exit) and go about eight miles to Highway 104, then travel east one-quarter mile. The GCREC is adjacent to the highway.
