DEEP SOUTH FRUIT & VEGETABLE GROWERS CONFERENCE SET
MOBILE, Ala. -- Agri-tourism will take the spotlight Dec. 5-6 when fruit and vegetable producers from across the Southeast gather in Mobile for the Deep South Fruit & Vegetable Growers Conference and Trade Show.J. Thomas Chesnutt, a tourism specialist with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System will be among guest speakers addressing agri-tourism as he takes a look at the Alabama Agri-Tourism Trail and what it can mean to producers. Attorney Mike Massey of Massey Higginbotham Vise & Phillips, P.A., will address liability issues for agri-tourism operations, and Breda Dean of Francis L. Dean & Associates, Inc., will discuss liability insurance for special events. The pros and cons of agri-tourism will be at issue during a panel discussion featuring Garry and Charlotte Adkins of Adkins Farm, Harvey and Patty Swearingen of Circle S. Ranch, LLC, and David and Jane Boyd of Nichols-Boyd Pumpkin Patch. Sessions on marketing are also on tap as is a special Wednesday night session for beginning growers which will include such topics as getting started on growing blueberries, greenhouse production, using the farmers market and how to get started in the vegetable and fruit business. Thursday will feature sessions on blueberry production and related issues. The conference will be held at the Riverview Plaza Hotel on Water Street. Registration includes admission to all technical sessions, admission to the trade show and exhibits, Thursday luncheon, Taste of the South Reception and dues to your state Fruit & Vegetable Growers Association.
