EVENT TO HELP PREPARE FOR ALABAMA MARKET HOG SHOW
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Extension agents, FFA advisors, teachers and students are invited to attend the Alabama Youth Swine Day on Dec. 8 at the Lewis Swine Barn in Montgomery. "This event, hopefully, will help educators and students learn about swine nutrition, pig handling, Pig Quality Assurance and showing hogs in general," said Guy Hall, director of the Alabama Pork Producers. No pig is required for the educational session from 10 a.m. until noon. However, youth interested in entering their swine in the competition, which begins at 1:30 a.m., are asked to contact Randy Shuffield at (256) 741-4428. Registration is 7:30-9:30 a.m. on the day of the show. Hall, who is also director of the Alabama Farmers Federation's Pork Division, said this "pre-show" is intended to help students get their pigs, tagged, weighed and registered before the Alabama Market Hog Show on Jan. 19. More information about that Jan. 19 show, sponsored by Federal Land Bank, First South Production Credit, county Farmers Federations and the Alabama Pork Producers, is available at
www.ag.auburn.edu/~rebert/ or by calling Bob Ebert at (334) 844-1563. Registration forms for the Jan. 19 event must be returned to Ebert no later than Dec. 15.
