ALFA INSURANCE SUPPORTS ALABAMA HONOR FLIGHTS
MONTGOMERY, Ala., Sept. 4 -- Alfa Insurance has contributed $15,000 to support Alabama's Honor Flight programs. The contributions will help scores of Alabama WW II veterans travel to Washington, D.C. to visit the war memorial dedicated to their service. Alfa provided $5,000 each to the River Region, Tennessee Valley and Birmingham Honor Flight chapters.
"Alfa is privileged to support this program because of the outstanding service these veterans gave to out country," said Jerry Newby, president and CEO of Alfa Insurance. "It would be a real shame if they're unable to see the beautiful memorial -- their memorial -- and witness America's tribute to their bravery."
The sole purpose of Honor Flight is to fly veterans to the nation's capitol to visit the memorial honoring their sacrifice. To date, thousands of veterans nationwide, and hundreds in Alabama, have participated in the program. The veterans, accompanied by a band of volunteers known as "guardians," fly absolutely free on chartered aircraft to Washington, where they participate in ceremonies at the various war memorials before traveling back to Alabama that evening.
All three of Alabama's Honor Flight chapters have flights scheduled for this fall:
-- Honor Flight Tennessee Valley (www.honorflight.net) -- September 13 and October 11
-- Honor Flight Birmingham (www.honorflightbirmingham.com) -- September 10, October 7 and November 5
-- Honor Flight River Region (Prattville Chamber of Commerce at 334-365-7392) -- October 4
