SPARKS LEADS TRADE MISSION TO ARGENTINA
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Agriculture & Industries Commissioner Ron Sparks is currently leading a delegation of Alabama business leaders on a trade mission to Argentina. According to Sparks' office, the purpose of the trip is to meet with agricultural, biofuel and agribusiness companies as well as link opportunities between Alabama agriculture and its counterparts in Argentina. The Alabama representatives will be in discussions with Argentine industries regarding possible purchases of Alabama products and are also expected to meet with the Vice Governor of Argentina's Buenos Aires Province.
In addition to trade opportunities, the delegation will also explore opportunities for Alabama farmers to heat their poultry houses with biomass and will study whether Alabama farmers and forestry owners could benefit from the production of ethanol via the gasification process of biomass. Today, the delegation met with cattle ranchers and commodity producers from the Buenos Aires province. After the visit in Argentina, Sparks' delegation will travel to Brazil to meet with agribusiness companies utilizing Alabama products in their production practices.
The State of Alabama will host a delegation of Argentine leaders in October.
