QUAIL HABITAT SEMINAR OCT. 4 IN JACKSON COUNTY
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Habitat management, landowner assistance programs and a field tour will be on the agenda Saturday, Oct. 4, when the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System host a daylong seminar in Jackson County. "Managing Quail on Farmlands" begins at 10 a.m. with an indoor session at Mud Creek Fishing Camp Restaurant with presentations on "Quail Habitat Requirements" by Stan Stewart; "Quail and Grassland Bird Responses to Field Border Habitats" by Mark Smith; and "Landowner Assistance Programs for Quail Habitat Development" by Jim Schrenkel. After lunch on their own, participants will head to the Mud Creek and Skyline-Martin Wildlife Management Areas where Jud Easterwood will discuss field border habitat management at the Mud Creek WMA and Frank Allen will address habitat management for small game at the Skyline-Martin WMA.
