ALABAMIANS TO BE RECOGNIZED AT FFA CONVENTION
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Two Alabamians will be honored tonight as an expected 53,000 blue-jacketed FFA members gather today through Friday for the National FFA Organization's 81st annual convention in Indianapolis, Ind.Noah Skyler Sims of the Falkville FFA Chapter and Bethany Ray Lewis of the Ashford FFA Chapter will be honored tonight at a reception for national finalists in the FFA Agricultural Proficiency Awards. Sims was awarded for entrepreneurship in agricultural mechanics energy systems, while Lewis was awarded for dairy production. The National FFA Organization, formerly known as the Future Farmers of America, is a national youth organization with more than 507,000 student members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture. This year's theme is "Step Up, Stand Out." Alabama has almost 300 FFA Chapters and 14,000 members statewide. In addition to election of officers, the convention will also feature career development workshops and competition in public speaking and various commodities, such as poultry, dairy, beef cattle, agronomy, etc. FFA members will also be treated to a Taylor Swift concert, a hypnotist show and a trip to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the convention.
