NEW FEDERATION BENEFIT HELPS CUT HEALTH CARE COSTS

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- In a time of skyrocketing health costs, Alabama Farmers Federation members can now save a bundle -- up to 50 percent -- on prescription, online and over-the-counter drugs, medical supplies and equipment, diabetes care and even hearing aids.

It's called the Points of Care program, powered by Universal Rx, and it's now available free as a benefit of Federation membership.

"In difficult economic times such as these, we're doing everything we can to save our members money and make their membership in the Federation more valuable to them," said Mike Tidwell, director of the Federation's Department of Organization. "We believe the Points of Care program will do just that. It is an enormously useful -- and valuable -- benefit of membership."

The Points of Care program was created to save money for members who currently do not have prescription drug coverage. Most members save from 10 to 50 percent off prescription medications.

"Prescription drug costs have risen so significantly over the last several years that many people can no longer afford their prescription medications," said Holly Weischedel, director of business development for Universal Rx. "Universal Rx works to try to curb those costs for Federation members as much as possible. The Points of Care program has saved thousands of people an average of 22 percent off their prescription drugs over the past 10 years. Universal Rx is excited to offer the best possible discounts to Federation members and their families."

Members simply present their card -- which you can download below, find in the current issue of Neighbors magazine or by visiting www.PointsOfCare.com -- to one of more than 45,000 chain pharmacies (Wal-Mart, Walgreen's, K-Mart, CVS, Target and Rite-Aid among them) to start saving. No enrollment forms are required. One card is good for the whole family, and there are no pre-existing conditions because Points of Care is NOT health insurance.

The price of medication is determined at the pharmacy when the card is presented. Average retail pricing can be found on the Points of Care Web site at www.PointsOfCare.com. Savings are available on brand name and generic medications.

Another feature of Points of Care is its Mail Order Savings Program, from which members can order 30-, 60- or 90-day supplies for deep discounts, sometimes as much as 40 percent. Rather than wait in line at the pharmacy, members can have their medications delivered to their front door. To use this feature, visit www.PointsOfCare.com or call toll-free at 1-800-742-0504. Medications are shipped through U.S. Postal Service, DHL, FedEx or UPS within three to seven days of receipt of the order. Shipping is free with a minimum purchase.

The Hearing Savings Program provides 50 to 65 percent off hearing aids. Members can call toll-free at 1-800-591-5080 to receive a hearing information packet that includes a list of participating providers.
