BACK-TO-BASICS HORSE COURSE PLANNED AT AUBURN
AUBURN, Ala. -- Veterinarians from Auburn University and a national animal pharmaceutical company will be among guest speakers who will address topics from horse health to pasture management at an educational symposium March 23 at the Ham Wilson Livestock Arena in Auburn.
Sponsored by Auburn Univeristy's Department of Animal Sciences equine science faculty and staff, the event -- for the beginner or advanced equestrian -- will also feature speakers from AU's College of Agriculture and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.
Among the topics to be addressed are preventative health care, first aid techniques for horses, controlling weeds and maintaining grass in pastures, fire ant control, body condition scoring, horse nutrition and maintaining safe facilities.
The registration fee for this one-day event (which includes lunch) is $50 for adults and must be received by March 20. After that date (or at the door), the fee is $60. Youth under the age of 18 can pre-register for $25 ($35 at the door). Doors open at 8 a.m. and the official program begins at 9 a.m.
