CONFERENCE TO FOCUS ON PEANUTS, POLITICS, PRODUCTION
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. -- Peanuts, politics and production will all be on the agenda July 12-14 as the 11th annual Southern Peanut Growers Conference is held at Edgewater Beach Resort in Panama City Beach, Fla.
The first general sessions focus on "Peanuts & Politics" with speakers addressing current issues facing producers. Among the speakers will be U.S. Rep. Allen Boyd (D-Fla.,), a fifth-generation farmer who continues to oversee the family farm operation, who'll provide a look at the legislative agenda now facing Congress.
Other first session speakers include Michael Kashtock of the Food & Drug Administration on food safety,
The emphasis shifts to production issues during the second general session with seminars on the growers' role in food safety, basic research's role, herbicide weed resistance and more. The third general session takes a look at the current state of the peanut industry with seminars on marketing, surviving crises and getting out correct message.
Tuesday's fourth general session is "Speak Out for Agriculutre" and includes spakers from the American Peanut Council, Peanut Advisory Board, the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association and others.
