HELMS TO HEAD ADVERTISING, PUBLIC RELATIONS DEPARTMENT
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Jeff Helms, director of communications for the Alabama Farmers Federation, has been given the additional responsibilities of public relations and advertising for the Federation and Alfa Insurance.
Helms, 40, joined the Federation staff in 1998 as editor of the Cultivator and later that year was named editor of Neighbors and Alfa Friends & Family magazines. In 2003, he was named assistant director of the Public Relations Department before being named Communications Department director in 2005.
"Jeff has done an outstanding job in his current position and brings a wealth of experience to his new responsibilities," said Federation Executive Director Mike Kilgore. Helms, a native of Jackson County, grew up on a fruit and vegetable farm. He has a degree in ag communications from Auburn University and was employed as communications director of a USDA agency prior to working for Alfa.
In his new position, Helms will continue to oversee the communications department and will assume the duties as general manager of Creative Consultants, Inc., Alfa's in-house advertising agency. He also will be responsible for advertising and will be media spokesman for the Federation and Alfa Insurance.
"My family and I have been blessed by the people involved with the Alabama Farmers Federation and the opportunities it has given us," Helms said. "I am thankful for the opportunity to tell farmers' stories, and I look forward to building on the positive image of Alfa through advertising and public relations. We have a wonderful staff of creative professionals who are dedicated and loyal to this organization and the farmers of the state."
