VILSACK NAMES RONALD DAVIS TO RURAL DEVELOPMENT POST
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Ronald Davis, who has worked for the U.S. Farm Service Agency since 1995, has been named to head Alabama’s Office of Rural Development by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, according to a report in today’s Birmingham News. Davis, who only recently was passed over in his bid to head the state FSA program in favor of career FSA employee Daniel Robinson, will annually direct millions of dollars worth of grant and loan programs for housing, economic development and other needs. Vilsack said Davis “will be an important advocate on behalf of rural communities throughout the state.” Tom Whatley, a former aide to Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb, was also a candidate for the post, and was the choice of the three Democrats in Alabama's congressional delegation.
