AFVGA CONFERENCE SET FEB. 20 AT AUBURN
AUBURN, Ala. -- Work sessions on everything from strawberry production to tomatoes, watermelon and cantaloupes will be on the agenda Feb. 20 when the Alabama Fruit & Vegetable Growers Conference convenes for a day-long event at Auburn University’s Lowder Building.Don Wambles, director of the Alabama Farmers Market Authority, will address the gathering at 8:45 a.m. Registration is 7:30-8:30 a.m. with breakout sessions for small fruit, tree fruit and vegetables set for 9:15-11:45 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. An awards program and business meeting will be 3-4 p.m. Other topics include production of satsuma, peach, persimmons, heirloom apples, blueberries, blackberries, muscadines, Southern peas and asparagus. Various high tunnel production systems will also be discussed. The $40 pre-registration fee includes 2010 membership in the AFVGA. On-site registration will be $50.
