COMMODITY LEADERS CHART COURSE FOR COMING YEAR
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Nearly 700 Alabama farmers representing every commodity grown in the state will gather in Birmingham Feb. 2-4 for the Alabama Farmers Federation's Commodity Organizational Conference. Farmers representing 16 commodities will chart the direction for their respective state committees and will elect new committee members.
The conference will be at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center on Grandview Parkway. Federation Commodity Director Jimmy Carlisle said the three-day meeting is an excellent educational opportunity for farmers. He encouraged all county commodity chairmen and vice chairmen from the Federation to attend.
"This meeting allows leaders in each commodity to review the past year's activities, select the goals and set priorities for the coming year," said Carlisle. "Each of the men and women who are chosen to represent their county commodity committee at this event brings their ideas and issues to this meeting. For some, the focus might be reducing input costs for farmers. Others might suggest a focus on research or technology. But a common goal for each group is to make agriculture more profitable and sustainable for the farmers in Alabama. During the meeting, our commodity leaders also will have the opportunity to hear from some 76 speakers who will deliver excellent educational programs during the three-day meeting."
The meeting date for each commodity is listed below. Registration time for all meetings begins at 8:30 a.m., with commodity meetings beginning at 9:30 a.m. and concluding around 3:30 p.m.
