UNIONTOWN, Ala. -- Harvest Select Catfish, a catfish farming and processing operation in Uniontown, will be featured on the History Channel's Food Tech show Thursday, Feb. 18, 8 p.m. Central.Hosted by Bobby Bogner, Food Tech takes viewers on a journey of the catfish from its beginning all the way to the plate. Bogner wades among the 275,000 catfish during feeding time, and discovers how each fish is scooped from the pond and becomes a fillet within an hour. Bogner and his crew follow along as catfish travels through the plant and is packaged, loaded aboard trucks and eventually delivered as the centerpiece of a traditional Southern meal. Harvest Select is a privately owned and operated, vertically integrated company with more than 270
employees at its Uniontown and Eudora, Ark., processing plants. The company was the first in the industry to be certified according to Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP). The company was founded in 1991 by five West Alabama farmers with 75 employees. Today, the company has the capability to produce more than 750,000 pounds of catfish weekly.
