CHICKEN & EGG FESTIVAL SET APRIL 10-11
A chicken-clucking contest, egg toss and hard-boiled egg and wing-eating competitions will be part of the fun April 10-11 when the Lawrence County Arts Council presents its annual Alabama Chicken & Egg Festival at the Lions Club Fairgrounds in Moulton. Wet Willie, the Southern rock band of the 1970s known for its Top 10 hit "Keep On Smilin'," will headline the annual celebration of the state's poultry industry which employs more than 476,000 people, or 21 percent, of the state's work force. Blues, bluegrass and country acts will also perform. The Southern Folklife Artists area will introduce attendees to a diversity of folk skills from basket-weaving to quilting, while the Children's Chicken Coop will offer a line up of games, contests, play area and exhibits. Attendees will also see dozens of classic and antique tractors, as well as, state-of-the-art GPS farming equipment. Master exhibitor Glen Cryar will have more than 100 live bantam chickens representing 25 varieties on display in cages under a tent at the fairgrounds. Admission to the festival is only $3 per person and free for those under 5 years old.
