VOTERS REMINDED OF ABSENTEE BALLOT DEADLINES
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Voters who plan to cast absentee ballots by mail for the June 1 primary elections are reminded that their ballots must be mailed by Saturday, May 29, according to information posted on the Alabama Secretary of State's Web site. www.AlabamaVotes.gov, the state's official election Web site, says this deadline is due to the closure of post offices and most state and county offices for Memorial Day on May 31. The deadline for hand-delivered absentee ballots is Friday, May 28. A voter may cast an absentee ballot IF he or she ... -- Will be absent from the county on election day -- Is ill or has a physical disability that prevents a trip to the polling place -- Is a registered Alabama voter living outside the county, such as a member of the armed forces, a voter employed outside the United States, a college student, or a spouse or child of such a person -- Is an appointed election officer or poll watcher at a polling place other than his or her regular polling place -- Works a required shift, 10-hours or more, that coincides with polling hours For more information, call 1-800-274-VOTE with any questions regarding the June 1 primary election or visit www.AlabamaVotes.gov.
