MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- With the National Hurricane Center predicting the most active hurricane season since 2005, Alfa Insurance is ready to respond to claims and is helping policyholders prepare for severe weather.

"Alfa has a comprehensive business continuity plan to ensure we are able to deliver on our promise to policyholders during a disaster," said Alfa President Jerry Newby. "In the last five years, we have built a Business Processing Center that's capable of withstanding 155-mile-per-hour winds and rolled out two Mobile Response Units that can be deployed to areas hit hard by storms. Our adjusters also are equipped with mobile offices, which allow them to process claims on the spot."

The 134,000-square-foot Business Processing Center at the Alfa headquarters in Montgomery, Ala., opened in May 2006. It serves as the company's technology center and can house all essential operations during a catastrophe. It is equipped with dual power feeds and three redundant generators with enough on-site fuel storage to power the facility 24 hours a day for seven days.

The 38-foot Mobile Response Units, which were dispatched to Albertville, Ala., and Yazoo City, Miss., last month following an outbreak of tornadoes, are fully functional offices with connectivity to Alfa's computer network via satellite, cellular and land-line technology.

Despite advances in technology, Newby said the best way to prepare for a disaster is to practice.

"We regularly test our Business Continuity Plan and disaster recovery procedures both at the home office and in the field with our Mobile Response Units," Newby said. "This ensures Alfa employees will be ready to respond to our customers' needs regardless of the situation."

Customers rank Alfa among the top insurance companies in the country when it comes to claims service. In addition, the company's extensive network of local agents, adjusters and customer service representatives allows Alfa to respond quickly to severe weather.

To help policyholders prepare for hurricane season Alfa has updated its Severe Storm Center page with a storm preparation checklist, frequently asked questions about the claims process and tips about how policyholders can protect their property.

Alfa customers can report claims at their local Alfa office, online at AlfaInsurance.com or by calling 1-800-964-2532. Policyholders also can get up-to-the-minute storm information by following Alfa on Twitter at @Alfa_Insurance or Facebook at Alfa Insurance.
