FRIDAY DEADLINE FOR AQUACULTURE ASSISTANCE
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Alabama Department of Agriculture & Industries reminds Alabama's aquaculture producers that the application deadline for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Aquaculture Grant Program is Friday, Oct. 29. The USDA is providing $3.9 million to be used to compensate Alabama's producers who experienced losses due to high feed costs in 2009. This funding is part of a trio of disaster assistance programs approved by the USDA in September that includes: Crop Assistance Program, Lost Poultry Contract Assistance Program and Aquaculture Grant Program. Aquaculture producers should contact Joe Cowart at 1-800-642-7761, ext. 7223 for more information. The Lost Poultry Contract Assistance Program application process will be Nov. 1-Dec. 1. Poultry producers should contact Ray Hilburn at 1-800-642-7761, ext. 7213. The Crop Assistance Program is being administered by the Farm Service Agency (FSA).
