LEGISLATIVE JOINT ENERGY COMMITTEE PLANS FOR ALABAMA'S ENERGY FUTURE
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- In a recent meeting of the Permanent Joint Legislative Committee on Energy, State Rep. Greg Wren, R- Montgomery, was recently elected to serve as chairman for 2011-2014. State Sen. Cam Ward, R-Alabaster, was elected vice-chairman.
Other committee members include State Rep. Chad Fincher, R-Mobile; Jim Barton, R-Mobile; Alan Boothe, R-Troy; Johnny Mack Morrow, D-Red Bay; Mac McCutcheon, R-Capshaw; Oliver Robinson, D-Birmingham; and State Sens. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur; Gerald Allen, R-Cottondale; Tom Whatley, R-Auburn; Ben Brooks, R-Mobile; Billy Beasley, D-Clayton; Greg Reed, R-Jasper; and Tammy Irons, D-Florence.
In addition to the 15 legislators, the Permanent Legislative Committee on Energy has enlisted a broad array of participants and agencies to continue the development of a comprehensive energy plan for the state. Those include Gov. Robert Bentley, the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries, Alabama's universities, energy producers, renewable energy stakeholders and consumers.
House Speaker Mike Hubbard, R-Auburn, encouraged the continued work of the Joint Legislative Energy Committee and expressed his support of the new leadership.
"Greg Wren is an experienced lawmaker with keen awareness of the energy challenges we face as a state and nation," said Hubbard. "I'm proud he'll be representing the Alabama House in this capacity."
Since its inception in 2007, the Joint Energy Committee has passed eight general bills and five resolutions designed to develop a set of comprehensive energy policies for the state of Alabama.
